New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi on Monday condoled the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. This came after Raisi and his foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian were killed in a helicopter crash in the mountainous terrain and icy weather, as per the statement by an Iranian official on Monday after the search teams located the wreckage in East Azerbaijan province.
Condolences poured in from all across the world on Raisi’s death, including India. Condoling Raisi’s death in a post on X, PM Modi recalled the Iranian leader’s contribution to strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and Iran.
Countries across the world had offered Iran help with rescue efforts to locate President Raisi, whose helicopter was involved in an accident on Sunday. Other countries expressed concern and offered assistance, including Iraq, Syria, Russia, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. The European Union also aided in the search effort by activating its fast reaction mapping service.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani expressed gratitude for “governments and international organisations for their sympathy and offer of help in the search and rescue operations.”
