FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be Misleading.

Performing a keyword search on Google, our NM team traced news reports by The Indian Express, The Hindu, and The Times of India carrying the details of the incident. According to these reports, a nine-year-old girl named J. Ayesha, a student of Class IV, residing in Gandhi Nagar, Choolaimedu, Chennai, suffered severe injuries on August 9, 2023. The incident occurred as a cow attacked her, lifting her into the air, while she was walking home from school with her mother and five-year-old brother on a narrow lane in MMDA Colony, Arumbakkam, Chennai.

The same viral video was also tweeted by NDTV on August 11, 2023, with the caption: “Owner Of Cow That Attacked, Tossed Schoolgirl In Chennai Arrested”.

Searching further, we found that the cow’s owner, S. Vicky, residing in Arumbakkam, was apprehended on charges of endangering public safety due to negligent behaviour. Authorities have taken custody of the cattle, including the calf responsible for the attack on the child, and subjected them to disease testing.

Another news report, dated August 11, mentions that Health Minister Ma Subramanian visited the injured girl. The girl had been admitted to a private hospital in Aminjikarai. Subramanian assured that the medical team is delivering top-notch treatment and that the girl’s condition remains stable.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral video showing a cow brutally attacking a girl is from Chennai, NOT Rajasthan.
