Andhra Pradesh: In a surprising turn of events, an unidentified person has perplexed authorities by dropping a staggering ₹100 crore cheque into the donation box (hundi) at the Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Simhachalam. This unusual incident occurred during the recent hundi counting process, leaving officials astounded.
To unearth more information about the generous donor, officials reached out to the bank using the account number provided on the cheque. However, it later emerged that the devotee had only ₹17 left in his bank account.
The temple authorities were left with both amazement and confusion as they navigated this curious incident. Upon careful observation, it was discovered that the cheque lacked a specified date and contained corrections in the indicated donation amount.
According to the report, the official then inquired from the bank about the depositor based on the account details mentioned on the cheque, after which the bank told them about the balance left in the account.
Temple authorities contacted the Kotak Bank branch at MVP colony to verify the cheque. It was revealed that the account from which it was issued, belongs to Boddepalli Radhakrishna bearing account number 8313295434, and had only ₹17 in its account.
“This is nothing new for the temple. In the past cheques with fancy amounts were dropped in the hundi by the devotees,’’ the Executive Officer said.
Over the past 16 days, the hundi offerings counted on Wednesday amounted to Rs 1.49 crore, including nearly 80 grams of gold and 10 kg of silver.
