SPG Chief Arun Kumar Sinha Passes Away at 61

Date:

New Delhi: Arun Kumar Sinha, the Director of the Special Protection Group (SPG), passed away on Wednesday morning at a hospital in Gurugram. The 61-year-old had been facing health issues for several months. Sinha, an IPS Officer from the 1987 Kerala cadre, has been serving as the Director of SPG since 2016.

He had received a recent service extension. The Special Protection Group (SPG) was established in 1985 to offer close security protection to the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers, and their immediate family members.

Sinha was an excellent police official and his passing away will be a big loss to the nation.
The Kerala cadre officer was handpicked by the PM and impressed the PM when he was posted with the BSF in Gujarat.

He managed the challenges to PM’s security effectively and implemented some futuristic thinking in SPG on how to manage VVIP security in the era of cyber and other threats.

Before his role as SPG Director, Sinha had held positions as the DCP Commissioner, Range IG, Intelligence IG, and Administration IG in Thiruvananthapuram.
