Nobel Prize In Literature 2023 Awarded To Jon Fosse For Giving ‘Voice To Unsayable’

Date:

New Delhi: The Nobel Prize in Literature 2023 was awarded to Norwegian author Jon Fosse “for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable,” as announced by the Swedish Academy in Stockholm on Thursday.

The renowned Nobel Prizes include physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and peace. These prestigious awards were established by Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor known for his dynamite innovation, upon his passing in 1896. In 1968, the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences was introduced by Sweden’s central bank.

The announcement of Nobel laureates for these esteemed awards is a much-awaited annual event held in Stockholm throughout October. The Peace Prize, on the other hand, deviates from this pattern, being selected by the Norwegian Nobel Committee and disclosed in Oslo.

According to Alfred Nobel’s own stipulations, the Nobel Prize in Literature should be granted to the person who, in the realm of literature, has created the most exceptional work in an idealistic direction.

In 2022, Annie Ernaux was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for her remarkable courage and clinical insight in revealing the origins, alienations, and collective limitations of personal memory.
