Amid the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict claiming thousands of lives, a video of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is going viral on social media. Many people on social media claim that the Qatar Emir threatened to stop the gas supply to the world if Israel didn’t stop bombing Gaza.
A Facebook user shared the video and wrote: “Breaking News: “If the bombing of Gaza doesn’t stop, we will stop the gas supply of the world.”— Emir of Qatar. A big blow to Germany who signed a major contract with Qatar. What are your thoughts on this decision?

FACT CHECK
NewMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be false.
It is to be noted that had Emir of Qatar given such statements, it would have been widely covered by major media outlets. No media has covered any such reports corroborating the viral claim. But in the viral video, the leader says: “The issue of Palestine is the issue of a people uprooted from their land and displaced from their homeland.”
Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team identified similar footage in a video report of Aljazeera Mubasher, dated May 14, 2017, with a title: “Emir of Qatar: The Palestinian issue is the issue of a people uprooted from their land and displaced from their homeland.” According to the description, the viral Speech is of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during the 17th Doha Forum held in the Qatari capital under the slogan “Development, Stability, and Refugee Issues”.
Several Arab media outlets had also reported the same in 2017, carrying Emir’s concern over the Palestinian refugees. Doha News also debunked this fake claim in their report, dated October 12, 2023, describing that the misinformation was shared by Twitter account named ‘Qatar Affairs’.
Thus, we can conclusively say that the viral video is almost six years old, and not related to the Israel-Hamas war.
