‘Vegetarian Dim Sums, Soya And…’: Chef Reveals Virat Kohli’s Diet During ODI World Cup

Date:

New Delhi: Team India continues its impressive streak in the current ODI World Cup, maintaining an unbeaten record. The players, both batsmen and bowlers, have consistently delivered in crucial moments, resulting in victories amid intense matchups. Notably, Virat Kohli stands out with his exceptional batting form, consistently troubling opponents with his masterclass performances. Beyond his cricketing skills, Kohli’s remarkable fitness has been unveiled as the secret behind his sustained excellence in the World Cup, evident in his agile running between the wickets.

As the Indian team toured various cities for league fixtures, top hotel chefs ensured thorough attention to all teams’ nutritional needs, preparing delectable and health-conscious meals. Virat Kohli and the Indian cricket team reaped the rewards of this culinary care. While players maintain diverse nutritional plans, the persistent interest from fans and cricket experts centers around Virat Kohli’s diet, acknowledged for his evolution into a prolific ‘run machine.’

Similarly, Anshuman Bali, the celebrated chef at Leela Palace hotel, disclosed that a majority of Indian players favor meals rich in protein and carbohydrates, a preference consistent during the ongoing ODI World Cup. Bali also shared insights into the specific dishes the players are indulging in, ranging from grilled fish to diverse chicken options. The chef has prioritized both taste and players’ health. Notably, Virat Kohli has adhered to a strictly vegetarian diet as a crucial element of his long-standing fitness regimen.

Influenced by top athletes worldwide, the star batsman adopted a vegan lifestyle for the current ODI World Cup 2023. Kohli’s dietary focus includes steamed dishes and soya-based, dairy-free meals. Hailing from Delhi, he savors delightful Tofu, steamed dim sums, and protein-rich foods, playing a crucial role in maintaining his outstanding fitness and overall well-being throughout the tournament.

“The buffet has all kinds of meat but the players opt for steamed or grilled chicken or fish. Virat doesn’t eat meat and so we went for steamed foods, like vegetarian dim sums, and other vegetable-based proteins, like soya, mock meats, and lean proteins, like tofu for him. We include as little dairy as possible in his meals,” Bali was quoted as saying by Times Of India (TOI).

Analyzing Virat Kohli’s outstanding display in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, the prolific Indian batsman has secured 354 runs across five matches. The importance of his consistent form is underscored by his remarkable average of 118 in this prestigious tournament. Kohli finds himself in a tight race for topping the batting charts, competing closely with notable names such as David Warner and Quinton de Kock.

It will be fascinating to see if Virat Kohli sustains his outstanding performance, possibly clinching the top run-scorer title in the ODI World Cup 2023. Moreover, the 34-year-old is nearing the milestone of surpassing the legendary Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar for the highest number of centuries in ODI history.
