El Salvador Introduces $1,000 Tax For Travellers From India

Date:

New Delhi: In a recent development, El Salvador has introduced a mandatory fee of $1,000 for travellers who possess passports from India or more than 50 African nations.

This fee, collected from such travellers, will be directed towards the enhancement of the country’s primary international airport, as per the Port Authority of El Salvador.

Airlines have been instructed by the port authority to provide daily notifications to the AIES-SORG billing, collection, and payments department. These notifications should include passenger names and nationalities, as well as details of their arriving and departing flights.

As of October 23, 2023, passengers are required to pay a total of 1,130 USD per traveller, which includes 1,000 USD and a 13% VAT charge, before they can board their flights.
