New Delhi: In the ever-evolving landscape of global gastronomy, India’s culinary prowess has now reached new heights in 2023. Taste Atlas, a leading food guide headquartered in Croatia, has consistently promoted the vibrancy of Indian cuisine, showcasing its diverse dishes and famous eateries on international platforms. The much awaited 2023 annual rankings underline India’s culinary excellence, making a lasting impact and attaining a remarkable milestone in the world of food.
India has clinched the 11th spot in Taste Atlas’ “100 Best Cuisines in the World List”. Surpassing heavyweights like the USA, Thailand, and South Korea, Indian cuisine earned this cool rank with a solid score of 4.52—just a tiny 0.02 points behind Peru. Italy, Japan, Greece, Portugal, and China snagged the top spots, while India’s food legacy stood tall among the global culinary greats. Pretty impressive, right?
Yet, the recognition didn’t end. Taste Atlas took a comprehensive approach to culinary rankings, evaluating an impressive 395,205 dishes and 115,660 food products spanning various global cuisines. Meticulously curating the top 50 food items for each cuisine, the best-rated cuisines were then ranked based on the average ratings of these dishes.
India secured four spots in Taste Atlas’ “100 Best Dishes in the World” list’s top 50. The popular Butter Garlic Naan claimed the 7th spot with an impressive score of 4.67. Close behind, the beloved Murgh Makhani, or Butter Chicken, took the 43rd position with a score of 4.54. Notable dishes such as Tikka and Tandoori also made an impact, securing the 47th and 48th positions, each with a score of 4.54.
Apart from specific dishes, the food guide has earlier recognized Indian landmarks such as Paragon and Peter Cat in its compilation of the Most Iconic Eateries globally, solidifying the widespread influence of Indian cuisine.
