Fact Check: Did Italian PM Meloni Say She Prefer A Trip To Lakshadweep/Andaman Than Maldives? Here’s The Truth

Date:

Amid the Maldives-Lakshadweep controversy, a tweet allegedly posted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is widely shared on social media. The tweet supposedly features an image of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep, with Meloni expressing her intention to visit Lakshadweep as well.

The viral tweet text reads: “Cancelled my trip to Maldives. Will prefer Lakshadweep or Andaman instead”.

Here’s the link to the above post

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

The NM team carefully checked the official X handle of Giorgia Meloni, but could not find any such tweet on her visit to Lakshadweep or Andaman.

Even with a Twitter advanced keyword search, our team was unable to find any tweet about her Lakshadweep/Andaman trip.

Giorgia Meloni’s Facebook account also does not carry the viral content. Had she made such a statement, mainstream media would have covered it. Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral tweet is fake.
