Fact Check: 2011 Clip Of New Zealand Copter Crash Falsely Shared As Recent Mishap In Ayodhya

A visual showing a helicopter crashing while landing has gone viral on social media claiming that the incident occurred at Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The post reads: “राम मंदिर मे सुबह सुबह की घटना, देखा विडिओ के चक्कर में क्या हुआ” (English translation: Early morning incident in Ram temple, see what happened due to video)

Here’s the link to the above post.

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be false.

Putting the viral video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, the NM team traced a video report in Sky News, uploaded on November 23, 2011, with a title: “Helicopter Crashes In New Zealand During Christmas Tree Installation.”

The video description reads: “Horrified Internet viewers in New Zealand have seen live pictures of a helicopter becoming entangled in cables and crashing to the ground.
Greg Gribble was helping to erect a seven-storey steel Christmas tree in New Zealand’s downtown Auckland when the helicopter clipped part of the structure and came crashing down. The Herald Sun newspaper said Gribble was taken to hospital with only minor injuries, and subsequently released and sent home.”

The same was also reported by ABC News (Australia) and BBC in 2011.

Thus, it is clear that the viral video is old, and not from India.
