Fact Check: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Painting BJD Party Logo? Here’s The Truth

Date:

The BJP initiated a wall-painting initiative to commemorate its 44th Foundation Day, featuring the party symbol ‘Lotus’ at various locations. This campaign is integral to the party’s extensive strategy for the upcoming General elections. Tarun Chugh, BJP national general secretary, announced that party members will inscribe slogans such as “Once Again, Modi Government” and “Once Again, BJP Government” on walls at more than 10.72 lakh sites.

Against this backdrop, an image of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan painting the logo of Odisha’s ruling party BJD is widely shared on social media.

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “ସକାଳୁ ସକାଳୁ କଣ ଦେଖିଲା ନୟନ l ଏ ତ ଆମ ମୁକୁ ଭାଇ କଣ ଚି଼ହ୍ନ ଆଂକୁଛନ୍ତି କି? (English version: See below.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Through a Reverse Image Search, the NM team traced the official Twitter handle of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan carrying the original image, dated January 28, 2024. The images were captioned: “Participated in BJP’s ‘Kanth Likhan’ programme in north Bhubaneswar Constituency Booth No. 59 Housing Board Colony. Padma, the symbol of our party BJP and Modi, has become a symbol of hope, progress and welfare of all sections. The people of Odisha have confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister @narendramodi and Modi. @BJP4India @BJP4Odisha”.

The BJP activists also compared the viral image to the original one, asserting that the IT cell of another political party had fabricated the misleading image to deceive the people of Odisha. Siddhartha Sankar Samal, state coordinator of BJP Yuva Morcha, shared both genuine and counterfeit images on his social media profile. He expressed concern over the attempt by a member of the opposing party to mislead the public with such deceptive tactics. “This deceptive image is an attempt to mislead the people of Odisha,” he wrote, emphasising his belief that the Lotus symbol, representing glory, would prevail across the region shortly.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral claim is edited.
