A video clip of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is going viral on social media claiming that he called Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb his brother.
The clip was shared on Facebook with a caption: *हिंदुओं सुनो : औरंगजेब अपना भाई था जिसने भारत माता के लिए कुर्बानी दी थी, राजनैतिक भिखारी के गंदे शब्द !* *सत्ता-लालच में विदेशी औरत के तलवे चाटते चाटते यह बालासाहब ठाकरे पुत्र इतना पगला गया है कि हिंदुओं के हत्यारे और शिवाजी के शत्रु के बारे में नया इतिहास पढ़ा रहा है!* मराठा वोटर ऐस दल को कैसे वोट करता है? इसे सभी मराठा वोटर तक अग्रसित करें। (English translation: Hindus, listen: Aurangzeb was our brother who had sacrificed for Mother India, dirty words of a political beggar! Licking the soles of a foreign woman in greed for power, this son of Balasaheb Thackeray has become so mad that he is the murderer of Hindus and the son of Shivaji. Searching through a Reverse Image Search, the NM team traced an extended video on Facebook, dated February 24, 2023. In the video, Uddhav Thackeray, while talking about an old incident, said: “This happened about three or four years ago, you might have forgotten or maybe you haven’t even read about this. One of our soldiers in Kashmir was going home when terrorists kidnapped and killed him. After a few days, his body parts were found somewhere. Was he ours or not? He sacrificed his life for our country. If I say that he was my brother, you will ask me about his name and his name was Aurangzeb. He might be from the Muslim community but he sacrificed his life for our country, so doesn’t that make him our brother? He was our brother.”
We found the original clip on the YouTube channel ShivSena UBT, dated February 19, 2023. Here the portion of the viral video clip can be seen at 29:40 minutes, where he is talking about a soldier named Aurangzeb, who was killed in Kashmir.
We also found news reports from June 2018 about the martyred soldier, Aurangzeb.
Thus, we can conclusively say that the post in circulation is misleading.
