New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today said that India has been investigating the alleged assassination plot of Khalistani Terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun based on certain information provided by the United States reacting to the red line comment made by US Ambassador Garcetti.
While addressing a press conference S Jaishankar said that the US Ambassador will say what he thinks in the position of his government. S Jaishankar said that the position of his govt (Indian Govt) is that in this particular case, there has been some information provided to India and the govt is investigating it.
In a recent interview, Garcetti stated that the inquiry into the purportedly aborted attempt to kill Khalistani terrorist Pannun is being conducted jointly by the United States and India. The Red Line between the two nations should not be crossed, according to the US Ambassador.
In a recent interview, Garcetti said that when people step over the line they say something will be bombed as opposed to saying something shouldn’t fly. He said that no government employee of any country can be involved in the assassination plot of a foreign citizen. He added that it is critical for anyone that there has to be a red line. Gurpatwant Singh Pannu is an Indian designated terrorist who holds American and Canadian citizenship and has repeatedly issued threats against India.
Pannu threatened to prevent Air India from operating on November 19 of last year. Thereafter, on December 13, the anniversary of the attack on the Parliament, he also threatened to attack the Indian Parliament. As per the indictment by the US Department of Justice, an Indian national Nikhil Gupta, who is currently in custody has been charged with murder-for-hire for Pannu.
The US Department of Justice claimed that the Indian Government employee who was not identified in the indictment filed had recruited Gupta to hire a hitman to allegedly assassinate Pannun which was foiled by the American authorities. The US Envoy appreciated that India set an enquiry commission to look into the matter. He said that he is very pleased that India has put together a commission of enquiry and put senior people who are experienced in law enforcement to investigate the matter and are gathering evidence that would show murder for hire plot which included anybody who was from the Indian Government.
Garcetti added that whatever the US has asked the Indian government has done it and vice versa. He said that the US takes accusations very seriously. US principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer recognized India’s formation of an inquiry committee in December of last year to look into the purported conspiracy to assassinate Pannun in the US.
