New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) issued a notice to Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Minister Atishi on Friday. This notice comes in response to Atishi’s statement claiming that the BJP had approached her through one of her ‘close’ aides for membership. Atishi has been asked by the EC to provide a response to the notice by April 8th.
The poll panel in the notice stated, “The political parties and leaders shall not make false statements, utterances without factual basis aimed at misleading the voters. Criticism of other parties or their workers on the basis of unverified allegations or on distortions shall be avoided.”
The EC further stated in its notice that it received a complaint from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on April 4, alleging that Atishi, made “misleading and unverified statements” during her press conference on April 2.
Atishi had claimed that she was approached by the BJP and given an ultimatum to join the party or face arrest. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari dismissed her allegations as ‘baseless’.
