Phase 2 of Lok Sabha Polls: 63% Voter Turnout Recorded Across 88 Constituencies | TOP UPDATES

New Delhi: The second phase of the 18th Lok Sabha Elections 2024 recorded 63% voter turnout on Friday in 88 Lok Sabha constituencies across 13 states and Union Territories.

At the end of the day, 63% voter turnout was recorded across 13 states and Union territories. Manipur, Chhattisgarh, Bengal, Assam and Tripura recorded over 70% voter turnout while Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra recorded the lowest turnout at 52.6%, 53% and 53.5% respectively.

States and Constituencies Going to Polls

In the second phase, all 20 seats in Kerala, 14 in Karnataka, 13 in Rajasthan, 8 each in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, 6 in Madhya Pradesh, 5 each in Bihar and Assam, 3 each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, and 1 each in Tripura, Jammu and Kashmir, and Manipur went to polls:

  • Assam: Karimganj, Silchar, Mangaldoi, Nawgong, Kaliabor
  • Bihar: Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Banka
  • Chhattisgarh: Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, Kanker
  • Jammu and Kashmir: Jammu
  • Karnataka: Udupi Chikamagalur, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, Bangalore South, Chikballapur, Kolar
  • Kerala: Kasaragod, Kannur, Vatakara, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Ponnani, Palakkad, Alathur, Thrissur, Chalakudy, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Mavelikkara, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Attingal, Thiruvananthapuram
  • Manipur: Outer Manipur
  • Madhya Pradesh: Tikamgarh, Damoh, Khajuraho, Satna, Rewa, Hoshangabad, Betul (Note: Voting in Betul will not take place on April 26 due to the death of a BSP candidate)
  • Maharashtra: Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Wardha, Yavatmal Washim, Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani
  • Rajasthan: Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Ajmer, Pali, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalore, Udaipur, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Bhilwara, Kota, Jhalawar-Baran
  • Tripura: Tripura East
  • Uttar Pradesh: Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura
  • West Bengal: Darjeeling, Raiganj, Balurghat

Key Candidates

The second phase has several high-profile candidates vying for seats. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Wayanad, while Congress’ Shashi Tharoor and BJP’s Rajeev Chandrasekhar face off in Thiruvananthapuram. Bollywood actress turned-politician Hema Malini is up for re-election in Mathura. Other notable candidates include Bhupesh Baghel from Rajnandgaon, DK Suresh from Bangalore Rural, and Tejasvi Surya from Bangalore South.

The first phase, which occurred on April 19th, covered 21 states and 102 constituencies, witnessing a notable voter turnout of over 65 percent across all states. The remaining phases will take place on May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, with results set to be declared on June 4th.
