Recently, a video surfaced on Internet, claiming that BJP supporters have pelted stones at a mosque in a village in Andhra Pradesh. The video shows a large crowd gathered in a narrow lane, vigorously throwing objects in the opposite direction. According to social media users, these individuals affiliated with the BJP are hurling stones at an old mosque.
(English translation: AP: In the village of Khyruppala in the Kurnool district, BJP supporters are throwing stones at an old mosque. Is this Modi’s new India? If we still don’t open our eyes now, this man will take India back to the era of stones and caves!)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the posts, and found the claim to be false.
Upon searching for the viral claim, the NM team found no credible reports of stone pelting on any mosque in Khyruppala. We also found another video similar to the viral clip. It was posted on Facebook by The Week, dated April 8, 2019, with a title: “Kairuppala village in AP marked annual Ugadi festival with flying cow dung.”
Another report by The Week, dated April 8, 2019, includes a higher-quality version of the viral video, confirming that the video is related to the Ugadi festival.
The Ugadi festival — on the occasion of Hindu New Year — is celebrated every year in Kairupula village of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh, where people throw cow dung at each other. According to a report by News18, people form teams and attack each other with cow dung during this ritual, known as “Pidakala Samaroh”.
Hence, we can conclusively say that the Ugadi festival video from 2019 is misinterpreted as stone pelting on a mosque in Andhra Pradesh.
