MEA Issues Travel Advisory For Indians Traveling To Iran And Israel

Date:

New Delhi: The govt of India on Friday issued an advisory cautioning its nationals to be vigilant and in touch with the Indian Embassy while travelling to Iran and Israel as both Middle Eastern countries are currently at war. The advisory was modified which urged its citizens not to travel to these gulf nations.

In response to a media query on travel advisory about Iran and Israel, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said “We continue to closely monitor the situation in the region. We have also noted that Iran and Israel have opened their airspace for several days now.” “We advise Indian nationals to remain vigilant while travelling to these countries and be in touch with the Indian embassy,” the MEA spokesperson said.

Earlier in an advisory which was issued on April 12, the MEA asked the Indian Nationals to avoid visiting the two Gulf countries amid tensions between Iran and Israel following an Israeli air strike on a building in the Iranian embassy complex in the Syrian capital of Damascus on April 1. The Israeli air strike killed seven people which also included Brig Gen Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Iran retaliated by firing hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel the next day.

Israel today confirmed the death of another Israeli hostage in Gaza since the October 7 attack on Israel as per the news agency AFP. The report said Dror Or, 49, is the latest hostage to have been confirmed dead by Israel after being captured during the Hamas attack that triggered war with Israel.

Or was murdered, and since October 7, his body has been kept in Palestinian territory. The first strike also claimed the life of Or’s wife. As part of an agreement between Israel and Hamas to exchange hostages for detainees and establish a ceasefire, two of their three children, ages 17 and 13, were taken hostage and later released in November. According to Israel, 129 militants who took hostages during their attack are still believed to be in Gaza. Or is among the 35 people the military claims are dead.
