Fact Check: 2019 Post Of UP CM Adityanath Threatening The Youth At A Poll Campaign Fictitiously Linked To 2024 LS Elections

Date:

A video, claiming that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is telling someone to put the banner down, or they will be unemployed for their entire life, has gone viral on social media.

The video is being shared with a text: “छात्र नौजवानों को योगी जी मंच से खुली धमकी दे रहे हैं “बैनर हटाओ नहीं तो हमेशा के लिए बेरोजगार कर दूंगा।” (English translation: Yogi ji is threatening the youth openly from the stage “Remove the banner, or I will make you unemployed forever.”)

The above post can be seen here (archive).

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the video, and found it to be old.

Running the video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, the NM team traced the same video on X, dated April 2019, with a caption: “आगरा – लोकसभा चुनाव 2019 के लिये फतेहपुर सीकरी लोकसभा से भाजपा प्रत्याशी राजकुमार चाहर के समर्थन में जनसभा करने पहुंचे @myogiadityanath ने मंच से बीटीसी युवाओं को फटकार लगाई। सीएम योगी ने कहा कि ये बैनर नीचे कर लो, नहीं तो हमेशा के लिये बेरोजगार रह जाओगे। #BTC” (English translation: Agra — Yogi Adityanath, who came to hold a public meeting in support of the BJP candidate from Fatehpur Sikri Lok Sabha constituency, Rajkumar Chahar, in 2019, reprimanded the BTC youth from the stage. CM Yogi said take down this banner, otherwise, you will remain unemployed forever.)

Another user shared the same video with a similar caption on April 14, 2019.

We also found reports by Jansatta and Oneindia Hindi from 2020, where they had covered the same incident after the video of the speech went viral on social media.

NewsMobile independently couldn’t verify the location of the video. But we can conclusively say that the video has been in circulation on Internet since 2019, and NOT linked to the ongoing 2024 LS elections.
