When IITians bonded in Korea!

You can probably take the Indian out of India, but not India out of the Indian.

Proving this cliche right, IIT Alumni Association Korea (IIT AA-K) organized an Alumni Meetup of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology graduates and their families in Hangang Park, Jamsil, Seoul on Sunday 26th of July.

The group, which was set up in January, aims to provide a community and platform to all IIT graduates who are working or studying in the Republic of Korea.

The members of this 50 strong group work for companies like Samsung and Hyundai, or are studying their Masters & PhD in Universities like SNU, Kyunghee and Pusan National University among others. This meetup, second of its kind, was an opportunity for all new and existing members to meet and know each other. A networking and a fun event involving spouses and kids, around 35 people gathered to have a fun evening with games and yummy Indian food of Samosa, Biriyani and Nan-Curry.

Playing Housie, followed by Eland Han River Cruise starting from Jamil and all the way to the rainbow light and water show on Banpodaegyo with stunning views of the Seoul on both the sides, a fun photo session and networking among members who were from different parts of India, with alumni from all IIT Universities marked the event.

Kanishak Kataria who lives in Suwon and works for Samsung Electronics commented that “it was a very nice opportunity to meet fellow alumni” and that “he enjoyed the river cruise.” Manish Agrawal who came all the way from Daejeon to attend this event said, “I have recently moved to Korea and it’s wonderful to meet and learn from other alumni who have been here longer and made it their home.”

The group also organizes knowledge sharing sessions where senior members give insights on various topics like Personal Finance, Investing, Career Management etc. In addition to such fun meetups and gatherings, they also do community outreach programmes where alumni take special classes to guide and help out high school students with Science and Mathematics (STEM) advice. A pilot project with Gyeonggi Suwon International School was successful and a full fledged programme is underway from the next semester.
