Apex court to hear Memons plea on Monday

New Delhi: It seems the convict of 1993 Mumbai serial blasts may get another chance, as Supreme Court has agreed to hear Memon’s plea.  

The apex court will hear the plea on Monday, challenging the death warrant issued against him and for the stay of his execution set for July 30.

“I have already assigned the bench. It will come by Monday,” said Chief Justice HL Dattu as senior lawyer TR Andhyarujina mentioned the matter before the bench on Friday.

Memon has challenged the 2007 decision of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) court which had awarded him the death penalty.

A special bench of the Supreme Court will now hear the case on Monday, days after Memon’s curative petition was rejected by the apex court.

On Monday, the Supreme Court will also hear a petition filed by the National Law University seeking stay on Yakub’s execution. The premier law institute had filed the case saying death warrant is in violation of the Supreme Court guidelines in the Shabnam-Salim case.
