A claim has gone viral on social media which according to which out of 95,300 names of freedom fighters engraved on India Gate, 61,395 were Muslims.

At the time of filing this report, the above Tweet was retweeted almost 3,000 times while the Facebook post was shared by over 6,600 users.
FACT CHECK
Team of fact-checkers at NewsMobile checked the above claims and found them to be FAKE.
Firstly, India Gate is a war memorial that commemorates the 70,000 soldiers of the British Indian Army who lost their lives fighting for the British in World War I and the Third Afghan War.
Moreover, according to the Imperial War Graves Commission, the foundation stone of India Gate, originally called All-India War Memorial, was laid on February 10, 1921 and was inaugurated on February 2, 1931. While, India got independence on August 15, 1947, 16 years after it was inaugurated.
The CWGC on their website mentioned that “there should be no distinction made on account of military rank, race or creed.”
Moreover, the website also gives the details of the fallen soldiers. India Gate has names of 12,260 Indian soldiers, 959 British soldiers and 1 Australian soldier.
Hence, the above information proves that the viral claim is FAKE.
