Today on the second day of the Winter Session, the Lok Sabha continued to witness a ruckus as Congress members sought to raise various issues and protested against the withdrawal of the SPG protection of the Gandhi family.

More than 20 members from the Congress and the National Conference trooped into the Well of the House during the Question Hour even as Speaker Om Birla asked them repeatedly to go back to their seats.

 

 

  • Rajya Sabha passed The Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial (Amendment) Bill.

  • The Congress on Tuesday protested in the lower house against the withdrawal of the Special Protection Group (SPG) protection of party interim president Sonia Gandhi and her two children – Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

  • Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu asked the secretariat of the upper house to review the new dress code of the House marshals after several political leaders, and distinguished army personnel pointed out that the uniform resembled those worn by military officials.

  • To highlight the need to think about the increasing levels of air pollution in the national capital, TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar wore a mask ahead of joining the Lok Sabha proceedings: “Out of the 10 most polluted cities in the world, nine are in India. It is quite unnerving that a foreign premier of a country who was on a visit to India made an adverse comment. I would like to draw the government’s attention towards it,” she said.

  •  Trinamool Congress’ Saugata Roy condemned the lathi charge by Delhi Police against JNU students seeking rollback of the hiked fees.
  • Congress’ TN Prathapan said that it is undemocratic that the government is suppressing the voices of students in JNU. A high-level investigation is needed into police atrocities against students, he said.

  • Rajya Sabha adjourned till 11 am Wednesday. The current session to have 20 sittings between 18 November 2019 to 13 December 2019.
