CAA protesters break through internet clampdown through this app

Date:

Though the government authorities have initiated a clampdown on internet and mobile services in many parts of the country including in some areas of the National Capital Region-Delhi, an offline messaging application has gained popularity and is even trending on social media sites such as Twitter.

Bridefy, the messaging application works on the principle of blue tooth technology or near field communication technology. It permits communication between two individuals or even allows multiple individuals to broadcast messages. However, the sender and the receiver have to be within a distance of 100 metres for it to work. It creates a mesh broadcasting network that permits the transmission and sending of messages and doesn’t rely on internet to work.

Apart from messages, users can also send offline advertisements, sounds, games as well as locations.

It can be downloaded on Android phones as well as I-Phones.

This application has gained popularity in recent times in places where the state has clamped down and restricted access to internet.

Many protesters continue to use this in Hong Kong, which has seen protests since the past six months.

It is expected that this will help the citizens keep in touch with their family members if the internet access is restricted.
