Russian and Iranian Foreign Ministers call on PM Narendra Modi

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday and discussed important aspects of their ties with India.

Lavrov extended an invitation to the Prime Minister attend the 75th Anniversary celebrations of the victory day in May and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the BRICS summits in July.

The Prime Minister recalled the important strategic and privileged partnership, the two countries shared and described the important achievements of both the nations in the previous year and expressed his hope that this year will be as enriching as the previous one.

The two countries have in recent times managed to infuse the energy that is required to sustain this relationship and are currently pursuing many connectivity projects of mutual importance.

The Prime Minister also expressed his keen interest in hosting President Putin for the annual Indo-Russia dialogue, later this year.

While meeting the Iranian Foreign Minister, the Prime Minister thanked the Iranian authorities for ensuring the success of the Chabahar port and the Special Economic Zone that is being operated with Indian assistance.

Recent developments related to the issue of US-Iran tensions too were discussed and India expressed its sincere hope that the situation will return to normalcy and ever lasting peace will prevail.

The two foreign ministers are visiting India to attend the Ministry of External Affairs, annual flagship geo-political program called the Raisina Dialogue. This is organized in collaboration with the Observers Research Foundation (ORF), a private think tank based out of Delhi.
