India continues to provide development assistance to Myanmar

India on Tuesday handed over 20,000 kits consisting of Rice, Noodles, Toor and Chana Dal, Chilli powder and coriander amongst other items to the Rakhine state in Myanmar.

This is in continuance of the sustained development assistance provided to the restive Rakhine state in Myanmar. The two countries had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2017 for the socio-economic development of the Rakhine state. Some of the project areas include, infrastructure development, skill development, school development, solar projects and health projects.

This above related agreement also includes small development projects including building of roads, electricity transmission etc.

India has already:

1. Handed over 250 fabricated houses to the state.

2. Proposal to construct libraries and soft infrastructure at 15 schools is under consideration.

3. India is also constructing an industrial training institute in the Rakhine state. Already such centres are at Pakokku and Myingyan.

4. Under its High Impact Community Development Projects (Small Development Projects scheme), last June, Government of India provided IT equipment to Sittwe Computer University and agriculture equipment to Rakhine State Government. Earlier, India had provided medical equipment to upgrade the facilities at Sittwe General Hospital.

India in response to the growing Rohingya crisis in Myanmar had launched “Operation Insaaniyat” in 2017 to help the province.
