COVID-19- Britain in a state of lockdown; Zimbabwe reports first death

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that his nation will be in a state of lockdown for three weeks amidst rising number of COVID-19 cases. Zimbabwe too reported its first death due to the virus and is mulling certain measures.

“From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction- you must stay at home”, said Johnson in a televised address.

He also warned people against meeting friends and socialising at a time of grave medical emergency and said that there will be stiff fines to be paid, if the violators are caught by the security forces.

All establishments including commercial ones will be shut except those dealing with essential services.

People will be permitted to go out and buy only essential items.

They will also be permitted to take a walk or travel to and from work, when absolutely necessary.

The British Army will ensure that all supplies are maintained across the countryside, said the PM.

These restrictions shall remain in place for a period of three weeks after which it will be reviewed.

British has reported a steep increase in number of Corona related deaths which have gone up from 54 to 335.

Britain had Long resisted demands for a complete shut down, even as the rest of Europe has gone into a quarantine mode amongst themselves and the rest of the world.

Down south, Zimbabwe in Africa reported its first Corona related death after a man who returned from New York passed away after testing positive.

The African nation has two positive cases till date and has sealed its borders to incoming traffic.
