WHO is NOT giving away smartphone, laptop; don’t fall for the FAKE post

A post by a page posing as World Health Organisation (WHO) has gone viral, according to which, the WHO is giving away ‘Brand New Phone & a Laptop’ to the first 20,000 people who will write ‘WINNER’in the comment section.

The post reads:
“Health Organization April Promo.

Apply now and win a Brand New Phone & a Laptop within 30 seconds, we create this platform to help people through out the world.

First 20,000 people to type “WINNER” without getting interrupted by another people win, winners would be announce as soon as possible.

At the time of filing this report, the above post was shared 60,000 times and had over 62,000 comments.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be FAKE.

We closely analysed the page W.H.O – Michael John and we found that the page is falsely attributed to the World Health Organisation.

Firstly, the page is not verified as it does not have the ‘Blue Tick’.

We further analysed the ‘Page Transparency’ of the Facebook page which made the viral post. Through our investigation, we found that the page was created on September 13, 2011, by the name ‘Michael johnL. opolento’. In October 2014, the name was changed to ‘Michael John Opolento’. Recently, on April 17, 2020, it was again changed to the current name ‘W.H.O – Michael John’. 

In conclusion, considering all the discoveries about the above page, it is clear that the viral post is FAKE and it is a comment baiting attempt.
