Over 5 million people have been infected with the novel coronavirus globally, including 338,183 deaths.

Here are the top 10 global developments this morning:

1. China on Saturday (May 23) reported zero new coronavirus infections for the first time since the pandemic began in the central city of Wuhan late last year.

2. US President Donald Trump has declared places of worship as essential places that provide essential services.

3. People arriving in the UK must self-isolate for 14 days from 8 June to help slow the spread of coronavirus, the government has said.

4. The World Health Organization has said South America is a new epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic, with Brazil and Chile recording more than 333,000 and 60,000 cases respectively.

8. Australia’s death toll has risen by one to 102 after the death of a man in a hospital in Victoria.

9. USA recorded further 1,260 deaths from COVID-19, bringing its total to 95921, according to Johns Hopkins University.

10. The German government has announced a series of reforms of the meat industry, including a ban on the use of subcontractors and fines of €30,000 (£26,000) for companies breaching labour regulations, as slaughterhouses have emerged as coronavirus hotspots.
