COVID-19: Centre identifies model cities which have fought the virus well

What is common to Jaipur (Rajasthan), Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Bengaluru (Karnataka) and Chennai (Tamil Nadu)? The answer: all these cities have come out trumps in fighting the coronavirus.

The Centre has praised these four cities for aggressively monitoring the COVID-19 cases and reducing the mortality rates.

Jaipur and Indore have put in aggressive systems to implement the tracking down of cases and enforcing the lockdown measures.

Jaipur Municipal Corporation drove out vegetable vendors from areas where they could have been super spreaders. They also implemented the physical distancing norms strictly in the areas within the jurisdiction.

The Indore Municipal Corporation formed special squads to comb areas within small gullies and streets. The city also ranks high on the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan rating.

The Southern Indian cities of Bengaluru and Chennai have managed to keep the rate of fatality down to less than 1%. The national average is around 3%. This is despite the fact that the two cities report a high number of cases.

These two cities have also rationalized the utilization of ventilators and did not face any situation of scarcity.
