Produce your Aadhar card for a haircut in TN; download app to buy sand in K’taka

Date:

South-West monsoon and cyclonic depressions are keeping the southern states on their toes.

Here are the top developments from the southern part of India:

1. Download the Maralu Mitra App to buy sand in Karnataka

Taking a cue from the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh, the Karnataka government–in a blow to the sand mafia in the state–will soon launch the ‘Maralu Mitra’ mobile application which will enable the users to buy sand digitally, pay for it online and get it home delivered.

The sand is expected to be priced at Rs 1,500 per ton. The current rate market rate is around Rs 3,250-3,500 in the state.

This is expected to streamline the mining process and cause least damage to the ecology.

2. Unemployed youth protest and try to stop Telangana CM’s convoy

Some unemployed youth protested and tried to stop the convoy of Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao in Hyderabad when he was returning after paying his tributes to those who laid down their lives during the state formation.

One youth has been detained and the investigation is presently underway to ascertain the cause of protest.

3. Want a haircut in TN? Produce your Aadhar card

The Tamil Nadu government has issued a note to all owners of salons and hair dressing shops to demand the Aadhar card of their customers and register their details.

This will help the state to ensure that those in quarantine and others do not violate any laws.

4. Massive confusion at the AP-Telangana border

Just like the Nation Capital Region of Delhi, the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana border, too, witnessed a massive confusion as Telangana lifted all restrictions for entry of individuals and vehicles, whereas AP continued to prohibit the entry.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs had left it to the individual state governments to decide on inter-state movement.

5. Kerala puts four districts on Yellow alert

The Kerala government has put four districts on a state of high alert and issued warnings following the heavy downpour caused due to the South-West Monsoon.

These four districts include Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kasargod and Kannur.
