COVID-19 | Top 10 developments in India this Friday

India reported its highest ever single-day spike of 13,586 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours along with 336 deaths.

According to the Health Ministry Friday morning update, the total COVID-19 infections in the country now rose to 3,80,532, including 1,63,248 active cases and 2,04,711 recoveries. The death toll now stands at 12,573.

Here are the top 10 developments in India this Friday:

1. The medical condition of Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain deteriorated Saturday afternoon after he developed a lung infection during the ongoing treatment for COVID-19 at RGSS hospital. He has been shifted to a private hospital and will be given plasma therapy, doctors said.

2. Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary of Health Ministry has written to Special Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary and Secretary (Health) of states and Chief Secretary of Delhi over, “strict implementation of the guidelines on home isolation at the field level”.

3. The Ministry of Home Affairs has capped the treatment cost of Covid-19 for private hospitals in Delhi. Also, LG Anil Baijal passed order stopping home quarantine; 5-day institutional quarantine made mandatory for all COVID patients.

4. Director-General of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Dr Balram Bhargava, has directed all States to ramp up testing for COVID-19 in containment zones and hospitals.

5. 337 new cases and 10 deaths have been reported in Karnataka today. Total number of cases stands at 8281 and the death toll is at 124: State Health Department

8. Rajasthan reports 299 fresh COVID-19 cases and 3 deaths. The cumulative number of positive cases stand at 14,156 including 2826 active cases and 333 deaths: State Health Department

9. 50 more COVID-19 cases have been reported in Uttarakhand as on 9 PM today, taking the total number of cases to 2177: State Control Room COVID-19

10. 118 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the state today. There are 1,380 active cases and 1,509 recovered cases in the state: Kerala Health Minister’s Office
