Mumbai Crime Branch on Monday busted a baby-trafficking gang and arrested a total of nine people, including seven women who were connected with the racket.
The newborn babies were being sold between Rs 60,000 to Rs 3 lakh, a crime branch officer told media. All the arrested were produced before a court, which sent all of them into custody till January 21.
All the accused have been arrested from Mumbai. One woman doctor who ran a private clinic has also been arrested in this case.

The police came to know about the activities of the racket after sub-inspector Yogesh Chavana and Manisha Pawar of learned about a Bandra woman who was selling babies.
Upon investigation, the cops identified a woman named Rukhsar Shaikh who was connected to the racket. As per reports, Rukhsar sold a baby girl she had delivered at VN Desai hospital. Further probe revealed that another woman, Shahjahan Jogilkar, had sold her baby through a woman named Rupali Verma, as per a report by The Times of India.
Upon being questioned, Rupali revealed the names of two of her accomplices – Heena Khan and Nisha Ahire. On the basis of the information, the cops arrested the accused persons. The police also arrested Sanjay Padam, a man who had bought one of the babies through the racket.
