Fact Check: Intelligence Bureau Did Not Conduct Surveys For West Bengal And Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections

Date:

An election result survey allegedly issued by Intelligence Bureau for West Bengal and Tamil Nadu assembly elections, predicting that Trinamool Congress and DMK alliance are leading in both the states respectively, is doing rounds on the internet.

The text on the survey read: ‘As per IB’s final on-ground assessment, the TMC is leading with a huge margin in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021. The TMC is expected to win 204+ seats in the state’.

The other survey reads, “As per IB’s final on-ground assessment, the DMK alliance is leading with a huge margin in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2021. The DMK+ is expected to win 178+ seats in the state”.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be FAKE.

We checked for the survey result on the Ministry of Home Affairs‘ website but could not find any such survey.

Press Information Bureau, the nodal agency of the Government of India, also confirmed that no such surveys have been carried out by the Intelligence Bureau.

In fact, PIB Fact Check, in a tweet, explicitly clarified that this information is untrue.

The tweet read, “No such on-ground assessment was carried out by IB”.

We looked for the media reports on the survey but could not find anything related to it.

From the above investigation, it is clear that both the documents are FAKE.
