Fact Check: Is Dearness Allowance (DA) Of Central Govt Employees Being Delayed Due To Omicron? Here’s The Truth

Date:

Amid the fresh surge of coronavirus cases in the country, a letter allegedly issued by the Ministry of Finance is being shared on social media claiming that Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief payable to central government employees and pensioners will be kept in abeyance in view of the Omicron threat.

Here’s the link to the viral post

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be FALSE.

Starting with our investigation, we performed a keyword search but could not find any news report corroborating the viral claim. Had the Centre announced such a decision, mainstream media would have covered it. Although, in our search, we could find several news articles that refuted the viral claim.

Searching further, we checked the official website of the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, but could not find any such circular dated January 3, 2022.

Further, we found a tweet by government’s nodal information agency, Press Information Bureau, in which it was clarified that the Ministry of Finance has not issued any such order. The text reads, “A #Fake order issued in the name of the Ministry of Finance claiming that the ‘Dearness Allowance & Dearness Relief payable to Central Govt employees and pensioners will be kept in abeyance’ is in circulation. #PIBFactCheck. No such order has been issued by the @FinMinIndia.”

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral circular stating the Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief payable to central government employees and pensioners will be kept in abeyance in view of the Omicron threat is false.
