Enforcement Directorate (ED) attached Rs 1.77 crore belonging to journalist Rana Ayyub in a money laundering case on February 10, 2022. In this backdrop, a video has surfaced on social media platforms showing Rana Ayyub walking out of a police station with a claim that she has been taken into custody in the money laundering case.
A Facebook user shared the video with a caption in Hindi that roughly translates to, “Rana Ayub, who spread rumors and hatred in the country in the name of journalism by taking money from abroad, has been arrested. Rs 1.77 crore attached has been attached by ED, alleging money laundering.”

With the help of relevant keyword searches, we found the same visuals in a Punjab Kesari UP report. The report was uploaded on YouTube on July 3, 2021. “Elderly assault case- Journalist Rana Ayyub recorded statement, police interrogated for 2 hours,” reads the title of the video in Hindi.
The News Minute and India Today also published reports on this development in June 2021, according to which, journalist Rana Ayyub was booked by the Ghaziabad police in Uttar Pradesh over the viral video of a Muslim man who was assaulted in Ghaziabad’s Loni area.
In this case, Ghaziabad Police have sent notices to nine accused, including journalists. Ayyub record her statement at Loni Border Police Station on July 2, 2021, the day the viral video was recorded.
Therefore, it can be concluded that an old video of Rana Ayyub is being falsely shared as a recent one.
