Fact Check: No, This Video Does NOT Show ‘Booth Capturing’ In Ongoing UP Polls; Here’s The Truth

Date:

A video of a poll agent casting vote instead of the bonafide voter is being shared with a claim that it was shot during the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

“कुंडा में जिस तरह बूथ पर उपस्थित किसी दल के अवांछित व्यक्ति द्वारा सरेआम महिलाओं के वोटों का बटन दबाया जा रहा है, उसके वीडियो का संज्ञान लेते हुए चुनाव पर्यवेक्षक चुनाव आयोग से कुंडा का चुनाव रद्द करने की अपील करें। साथ ही दोषी व्यक्ति को चिन्हित कर तत्काल गिरफ़्तार ” the post claimed.

(English Translation: Taking into account how in Kunda, an unwanted person of a party present at the booth openly voted for another woman, the election supervisor should appeal to the Election Commission to cancel the elections. Moreover, they should identify arrest the guilty person.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.

We extracted keyframes of the video and put them through Reverse Image Search. The search led us to the same video, uploaded on Punjab Kesari, on YouTube on May 13, 2019.

“Poll Agent Illegally Caste Vote In Haryana’s Faridabad” title of the video read.

A polling agent in Faridabad near Delhi was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly tried to influence voters in the sixth round of national election. Action was taken against the official after a video on Twitter was brought to the notice of the Haryana election body.#2019LokSabhaElection,” the video description read.

We also found the same video in a video report by NDTV.

The report stated that the polling agent was arrested for trying to influence three women voters while they were casting their vote.

NDTV had also interviewed the women visible in the video and the accused polling agent. The agent said that he was explaining to them how to vote and not influencing their votes, while on the other hand, one of the the women said that he was asking them to vote for BJP.

Other media reports on the same issue can be seen here and here.

NewsMobile debunked the same video in 2020 when it was linked to Bihar Assembly elections.

From the above information, it is clear that the video is from 2019 General Elections and not related to the ongoing UP Assembly elections. Hence, the claim being made in the post is false.
