About 20,000 Indians Left Ukraine So Far: MEA

Addressing a media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that more than 20,000 Indians have left the Ukraine borders since India issued advisories, and more are expected to come back in the coming days.

Key Take-Aways from Special Briefing on Operation Ganga by MEA —

  • Total number of Indians who have left Ukraine since advisories were issued has gone up to nearly 20,000.
  • In the next 24 hours 16 flights are scheduled, including four C-17 Globemaster aircraft of IAF, to leave for neighbouring countries of Ukraine to bring back Indian nationals and students.
  • So far 48 flights have landed bringing 10,400 Indian nationals back to home under Operation Ganga.
  • In the last 24 hours, 18 flights have landed bringing back 4,000 Indian nationals from neighbouring countries of Ukraine.
  • Concern remains over active war zones in Kharkiv and Sumi. About 300 Indian students are still reportedly left in Kharkiv while another 700 are said to be stuck in Sumi.
  • An estimated 900 to 1,000 Indian students are reportedly stuck in Pisochin but buses cannot reach there because of live war zones. Buses are said to be still 50 to 60 kms away from the location of the students.
  • Access to the Moldova border is working well.
  • MEA’s round the clock control room has attended to 11,500 calls so far and 4,000 emails.
