AAP Sweeps Punjab, Ready To Burst On National Scene

Date:

New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has made its debut on the national political scene with a spectacular victory under its belt in Punjab, winning 92 out of total 117 assembly seats.

A beaming Kejriwal described the electoral victory as nothing short of a “revolution” as the bigwigs of Akali Dal and the Congress were left biting the dust in the electoral arena of the border state. In comparison with the last 2017 assembly polls, AAP gained 72 seats.
There is a message for all political parties in the victory of AAP in Punjab. People appeared to have given their nod to the Delhi model of social, educational development, and improvement of civic services in the national Capital in the past seven years.
For AAP, it will also mean that the party can have more Rajya Sabha seats in its kitty and become relevant in national politics. Clearly, it is keenly eyeing the slot being vacated by Congress.
AAP’s Bhagwant Mann fought successfully, leaving the Badals, Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu, Charanjit Singh Channi, and Bikram Singh Majithia, brother-in-law of Sukhbir Singh Badal of Akali Dal facing a crushing defeat.
People of Punjab seemed tired of both the Akalis and the Congress and wanted to give a chance to the newbie AAP in the hope that it will eradicate the menace of drugs and narcotics and provide job opportunities to the youth.
Punjab will certainly pave the way for a bright future of AAP if the party performs well and delivers on its promises.
