Vaping Is Dangerous! Here’s How Schoolchildren Are Falling Prey To E-Cigarettes

Date:

Just as regular cigarettes, e-cigarettes are equally deadly.

E-cigarettes are electronic cigarettes that run on batteries, having cartridges that contain liquid nicotine, flavors and chemicals. Used the same as regular cigarettes but the use is called vaping.

Many youngsters or children, who are still under the legal age, fall prey to this sneaky habit of vaping, believing that it is a healthier option than smoking regular cigarettes or tobacco products.

Fancy marketing campaigns, attraction to new tastes and flavors like fruit, mint, menthol, chocolate, a habit of seeing a family member smoking or vaping, try to experimentally deal with stress or anxiety with smoking or vaping, associated with deteriorating mental health, or just to be listed among the ‘cool,’ psychology of adopting a high-fashion and popular habit into one’s lifestyle – may all be interpreted as motivational factors.

What are the possibly deadly effects for a child?

Vaping e-cigarettes in children has been shown to disrupt lung health, affect school performance, affect teenage brain development, and even put a child at risk for COVID-19.

The nicotine in the cartridge pot is equivalent to the nicotine in 20 regular cigarettes; it can affect teenage brain development, particularly the regions of the brain that control attention, learning, mood, and impulse control.

When children vape in their adolescent years, they may have side effects that turn into health issues in future, such as shortness of breath, nose and throat irritation, difficulty sleeping, and a reduction in appetite.

What is an e-cigarette and how does it work?

E-cigarettes come in a variety of sizes and forms; some make less smoke, some may be inhaled with substances other than nicotine, and still others are as small as a USB drive, allowing children to take them to school or vape at home. An e-cigarette contains a cartridge in which the liquid evaporates due to the heat generated by the batteries and is inhaled.

Is vaping banned?

Yes, use and sale of e-cigarettes are banned in India.

Consumption, production, manufacturing, import, export, transportation, sale, distribution, storage, and advertisement of e-cigarettes are all illegal in India after the ban came into force.

The condition, known as lipoid pneumonia, is caused by inhaling oily compounds contained in e-liquid (e-cig), which causes an inflammatory response in the lungs and is one of the main reasons for the ban.

Under the guise of minimizing possible health dangers to India’s youth, the government declared a complete ban on e-cigarettes in September 2019. The Indian Council of Medical Research advised that e-cigarettes be entirely banned in India in its white paper on the subject; this suggestion was made in the interest of public health and in accordance with the precautionary principle of avoiding damage.
