Against the backdrop of recent clashes in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area during a religious procession on April 16, a video is being widely shared on social media with a claim that a Qazi (a Sharia court judge) threatened members of the majority community.
The video is being shared with a Hindi caption, “हम हिंदुओं का जीना मुश्किल कर देंगें: दिल्ली शहर काजी”
(English translation: We will make it difficult for Hindus to live: Delhi city Qazi)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.
Using the InVid Tool, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and performed a Reverse Image Search. This search directed us to a YouTube channel that carried a longer version of the viral video on July 1, 2019. At 24 seconds, one can hear the exact content. The video title reads, “Jharkhandi mob lynching Tabriz Ansari k qatl par bole mufti raees Dehradun.” This clearly means that the video is old and not related to communal violence in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri.
Taking a cue from this, we searched further and found a news article published by Live Hindustan that reported the same incident in June 2019. According to the report, after the deadly mob attack on Ansari, a Muslim organisation in Dehradun, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, led by city Qazi Mufti Raees Ahmed Qasmi, demonstrated and handed over a protest memorandum addressing the Prime Minister’s Office to the District Magistrate of Dehradun.
Several other media outlets also reported this demonstration stating that while speaking to the local media, Qasmi made inflammatory statements and after that police lodged a complaint against him.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old incident is being falsely linked to the recent communal violence in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri.
