55 Lakh People Affected Across 31 Districts Affected Due To Floods And Landslides In Assam

The state of Assam is facing a devastating monsoon season with 31 districts across the state submerged in flood and getting affected by landslides in the past few days. The floods have claimed the lives of more than 80 people in the past few days.

  • Atleast 82 people have died due to floods and landslides in different districts.
  • According to reports, more than 55 lakh people have been affected by the floods and landslides in the state.
  • Reports suggest more than 2.13 lakh people have taken shelter across 814 relief camps established in different parts of the affected areas.
  • NDRF teams with the help of the army are carrying out rescue operations and distributing essential commodities in the affected areas.
  • Deputy Commissioner of Cachar district said that “Massive rescue evacuation and relief operations are continuing round the clock in the worst affected areas of Silchar Town to help the marooned people move to safer places.”
  • Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the on-ground situation and assured that a relief package will be announced shortly for the affected people.
  • The Prime Minister and Home Minister have sought a report of the on-ground situation and assured the state government that all required help will be provided from the Centre.
  • According to reports, A total of 1,13,485.37 hectares of land have been affected due to the floods and landslides in the state.
  • ASDMA in its report further stated that at least 11,292 people have been evacuated from the affected areas.
