Alain Aspect, John F Clauser and Anton Zeilinger Awarded Nobel Prize In Physics

Date:

Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser, and Anton Zeilinger won the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics on Tuesday for their experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in the press release said, they “conducted groundbreaking experiments using entangled quantum states, where two particles behave like a single unit even when they are separated.”

“Using groundbreaking experiments, Alain Aspect, John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger have demonstrated the potential to investigate and control particles that are in entangled states,” it continued.

According to the press release, Aspect, Clauser, and Zeilinger explored entangled quantum states and established the groundwork for the present quantum technology revolution with their studies. Their research set the path for new quantum information-based technology.

Intense research and development are underway to utilise the special properties of individual particle systems to construct quantum computers, improve measurements, build quantum networks and establish secure quantum encrypted communication.

Last year, Syukuro Manabe, Klaus Hasselmann and Giorgio Parisi won the Nobel Prize for Physics, “for groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of complex physical systems.”
