Fact Check: Viral Image Showing the Tea Garden Is NOT from Bangladesh, But China

Date:

An image of a circular tea garden is widely shared on social media, claiming that it is the Kodala tea garden in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

(English translation: “A tea garden of our Bangladesh. Pretty much the vision!! The name of the garden, Kodala tea garden, Rangunia, Chittagong.”)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did the fact-check, and found it to be fake.

Doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found the same image tweeted by CGTN, China’s state-affiliated media. The image had been shared with a caption: “Workers are pictured picking spring tea in a tea garden in east China‘s Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, ahead of the sixth Chinese solar term Guyu, or the Grain Rain.”

The same image had been also uploaded by another Chinese website with a caption: “4月19日,采茶工身背茶篓在武义县更香木龙头有机茶园,赶采谷雨前头茬春茶” (English translation: “On April 19, the tea pickers carried a tea basket in the organic tea garden of Gengxiangmu Longtou in Wuyi County, rushing to pick the first spring tea before Grain Rain.”

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is fake.
