Punjab Police Lathi-Charge Protestors Outside Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s Residence

Chandigarh: Workers from several labour unions across Punjab holding a massive protest outside the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Sangrur clashed with the local Police on Wednesday.

The Sangrur Police lathi-charged protesting Mazdoor Union people outside Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s residence.


The protestors are reportedly demanding a hike in wages under the MGNREGA Act 2005. They were protesting under the flag of Sanjha Mazdoor Morcha, a joint front of eight labour unions.

SSP Sangrur commenting on the scuffle said, “No lathicharge was done, and the protest is going on in a peaceful manner. An aggressive faction of protestors indulged in a scuffle, which was later controlled by the police. We have taken cognizance of their demands.”
