UK Minister Raises Issue Of BBC Tax Searches With EAM Jaishankar

Date:

New Delhi: British Foreign Minister James Cleverly reportedly raised the Income Tax ‘survey’ issue of the BBC offices in the national capital and Mumbai during his bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday.

James Cleverly is currently attending the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in India. According to reports, Cleverly was told that all business entities in the country must abide by India’s laws.

Earlier last month, the BBC offices were searched for three days after the IT department claimed its income was ‘not commensurate with the scale of operations in India’.

The report further added that the IT officials indicated that BBC had previously failed to pay some taxes.

Earlier, the government directed social media platforms to block links of the two-part BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi called ‘India: The Modi Question’. The agencies ‘survey’ on the BBC offices in India led to a major controversy across the world.
