Fact Check: BCCI Has NOT Yet Announced Squad For ICC T20 WC 2024; Don’t Fall For False Claim

Date:

Ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 which is scheduled to take place from June, a post surfaced on Internet claiming that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the much-awaited tournament, naming Hardik Pandya as the captain for the Men in Blue. The post also states that skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been dropped from the team.

The post in Hindi reads: T20 वर्ल्ड कप 2024 के लिए घोषित हुई टीम इंडिया हार्दिक बने कप्तान, सरफराज-उमरान को बड़ा मौका, रोहित-विराट बाहर (English translation: Team India announced for T20 World Cup 2024, Hardik becomes captain, Sarfaraz-Umran get big chance, Rohit-Virat out)

The above post can be seen here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be false.

To verify the claim, the NM team Scanned through the official X handle of the BCCI, but failed to find any post about the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

The official website of the BCCI also did not have any information about the team for the upcoming mega cricket tournament. BCCI regularly announces the squad on its official website (it can be seen here, here and here).

Meanwhile, NewsMobile has reached out to BCCI for a comment on the viral claim. Once we receive an update, we’ll get back to you soon.

However, with the above finding, we can conclude that the viral claim is baseless as the BCCI has NOT made any official announcement about the squad for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.
