Apple Lays Off Over 600 Employees Following Car Project Shutdown

Date:

California: Apple has recently announced the layoff of over 600 employees in California. As per a notice issued by the state of California, the affected employees were situated across eight different facilities in Santa Clara. This marks the company’s first significant job cut since the beginning of the pandemic

The reduction in workforce follows Apple’s decision to discontinue a long-running project focused on developing an electric, self-driving car, which was managed by a team known as the Special Projects Group.

The impacted employees were officially notified about the job cuts on March 28, with the changes scheduled to come into effect on May 27. As of now, Apple representatives have not provided any statement regarding the matter.

The company’s relatively slower growth during the pandemic has been cited as a contributing factor that spared it from more severe job reductions. As of now, Apple representatives have not provided any statement regarding the matter.
