Apple Maps to be available on Android?

Date:

New Delhi: A latest job posting by Apple Inc hints to the tech giant’s plans of extending its Apple Maps service beyond its own devices.

The Cupertino-based company is looking for ‘Maps Java Script Engineer with knowledge of JavaScript to help make maps work seamlessly on the web.’

Currently, Apple Maps is only available through dedicated apps on iOS 6 and later and OS X 10.9 Mavericks and newer. Although Apple has a dedicated web URL for the service, but it can’t be used to access the Apple Maps through a browser and only allows users to share map data.

A report on Apple Insider notes that such a move would not be a huge surprise for the company, which already offers much of its iCloud service, as well as the iWork productivity suite, in cross-platform browser-based forms.

If the possible cross-platform Apple Maps is in-the-making, we might be able to see it getting officially announced at Apple’s annual WWDC conference that is scheduled from June 8-12 and expected to unwrap possible features like crowd-sourced traffic information, indoor location tracking, and more detailed Flyover ‘street view’ data.
