Centre distances itself from Muftis remark

Date:

New Delhi: A day after the Jammu & Kashmir chief Minister Mufti Mohammd Sayeed made controversial remarks by crediting Pakistan and Hurriyat for the smooth conduct of assembly elections in the state, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday disassociated the government and BJP from remarks made by Sayeed.

“Our government and BJP fully dissociates with the statement of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed crediting Pakistan and Hurriyat for smooth conduct of assembly,” the Home Minister said in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

The credit for conducive environment for polls in Jammu and Kashmir goes to the Election Commission, our armed forces and people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

Singh also said that he is making this statement after discussion with and consent of the Prime Minister.

Earlier on Sunday while addressing a press conference within hours of taking oath, Sayeed said “I want to say this on record and I have told this to the PM that we must credit the Hurriyat and militant outfits for the (smooth) conduct of elections in the state.”

The Congress party staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha following protests on Sayeed’s statements.
